Eating Disorders / Disordered Eating
The spectrum of eating disorders includes anorexia nervosa, atypical anorexia, binge eating disorder and bulimia nervosa. While some individuals will not meet full criteria for an eating disorder diagnosis, treating and addressing disordered eating in any context is something our therapists strive to support.
Our Treatment Philosophy
Treating an eating disorder effectively and safely typically cannot be done by a therapist alone. Our therapists encourage clients who have active eating disorders to use a multidisciplinary approach to treatment. Our therapist will act as the point of contact for the client and regularly reach out and collaborate with other practitioners who are supporting the individual on their recovery journey. This can include, but is not limited to, a registered dietitian nutritionist, a psychiatrist, a medical profession such as a primary care doctor, and collaborating with teams at a previous organization.
Individuals who are stepping down from, or up to, a higher level of care to treat their eating disorder will also find our team knowledgeable and understanding of that process. Our relationships in the eating disorder community afford us the direct connection one may need with seeking more comprehensive support than outpatient level of care.
All therapists at Intuitive Counseling work from the Intuitive Eating lens and Health at Every Size (HAES) philosophy. There is no right size, weight, shape or way of living. We know diets don’t work and self-compassion is the key to relieving the antiquated and shame-ridden themes of our diet-focused society.
